What is CNAM?

CNAM stands for Caller ID Name. In the United States public telephone network, CNAM is a feature that identifies an incoming caller by a personal or business name associated with the originating phone number. This means your customers will know who's calling them before they even pick up the phone. It's a powerful way to improve your brand's professionalism and trustworthiness.

NOTE: Please note that this feature is only available to customers whose business profile has been registered and who are using a US number.

The Advantages of CNAM:

Displaying your business name, rather than an unfamiliar number, on the recipient's caller ID can significantly boost brand recognition and the likelihood of your calls being answered. For example, if a customer sees "Roofing Guard" instead of "+1 (415) 123-4567" on their caller ID, they might not recognize the number, but they will certainly recognize your business name. This helps businesses create a trusted connection with their customers, thereby enhancing customer engagement.

While CNAM (Caller Name Delivery) can help associate a name with a phone number, First Orion provides additional advanced caller identification and call management features that go beyond what CNAM alone can offer.

How to Register Your CNAM?

Registering your CNAM is a straightforward process. After securing your US number in Woosender, a CNAM box will pop up at the top of the number list. You can find it here Account Settings > Communication > Number pools (https://app.woosender.com/setting/number-pools). Fill it out, and you're good to go!

Highly Recommended (Optional): Register a FREE account with First Orion and register your number there as well. T-Mobile exclusively partners with First Orion, ensuring greater accuracy and recognition of your caller ID across various networks. More details on how to register can be found here.

Once you've submitted your CNAM, it will undergo a review process. You can check the status of your CNAM review by looking at the CNAM REGISTRY section. The statuses you might see include: Approved, In Review, or Rejected.

What if My CNAM is Rejected?

Rejection can occur for various reasons. If your CNAM application has been rejected and you want to understand why, feel free to reach out to our live chat support for clarification. Furthermore, you can modify the rejected CNAM and resubmit it for approval. Make the necessary changes, and click the 'resubmit' button.

Important Points to Remember

1. Propagation time

Once your CNAM is approved, it may take 48-72 hours for the display name to propagate to all carriers in the United States. Please keep this in mind. If your status is under pending longer than 3days, please reach out to support.

2. CNAM Display Name Settings

Remember, the CNAM display name will only appear on devices if it is enabled by the subscriber.

3. Landlines

For landline users, the CNAM feature is enabled by default.

4. Mobile Devices

On mobile devices, the situation is a bit different. Some carriers offer this feature for free, but others require you to download their smartphone app and pay a nominal fee of $3 per month.
